Polytech SA proudly attended the scientific workshop titled “Utilizing New Technologies for the Management of Greenhouse Crops with a Reduced Environmental Footprint,” which was held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, at the main amphitheater of the School of Agricultural Sciences of University of Thessaly in Fytoko, Volos.
The event was organized in the context of the project Μ16ΣΥΝ2-00021, titled:
“Use of Modern Remote Support Technologies to Save Water, Fertilizers, and Energy in Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides Ellis) Production Units in the Region of Magnesia,” co-funded by Greece and the European Union. As a key partner in this project, Polytech SA plays an active role in delivering innovative technology solutions for sustainable floriculture.
The program featured a series of insightful presentations by experts in the field:
- Prof. Christos Lykas (University of Thessaly) opened the technical talks with a presentation on smart systems for managing floricultural crops to optimize water, fertilizer, and energy use.
- Dr. Thomas Thomaidis (Pangaea SA, Imperial College London) spoke about leveraging modern technologies in agriculture—from remote support to intelligent equipment.
- Nikolaos Tsalouchos, an agronomist and commercial flower grower, offered perspectives on business-oriented floriculture, including challenges and future outlook.
- Dr. Georgios Tsoktouridis (ELGO DIMITRA) closed the session with a presentation on the value of native Greek flora in floriculture.
Polytech SA’s contribution to the project was presented, highlighting its efforts in developing smart control and monitoring systems for greenhouse operations. These technologies aim to reduce environmental impact while supporting efficient production of gardenias and other ornamental plants.
The event successfully brought together researchers, agritech companies, and producers to exchange knowledge and promote sustainable innovation in greenhouse crop management.
