POLYTECH Participates in RIS3 Development Plan Workshop

POLYTECH recently participated in a pivotal workshop focused on the “Smart Specialization” (RIS3) and innovation strategies for Thessaly, held at the Tsalapata complex in Volos. The workshop was organized by the University of Thessaly, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the current state and future prospects of the Energy and Environment sectors in the region. The goal of the event was to develop a consultation paper outlining strategies for securing resources in the next programming period, with an emphasis on innovation and enterprise in these critical fields.

The Workshop

This workshop served as a key forum where various parties shared their views on the future of energy and environmental innovation in Thessaly. Discussions centered on smart energy technologies, environmental management, and the potential of biomass for energy production.

Three main documents were published as a result of the workshop:

  1. The Energy Sector in Thessaly: Current Status and Prospects
  • This report, edited by Tasos Stamatellos, Nikos Danalatos, and Thomas Thomaidis, provided an in-depth analysis of the energy landscape in Thessaly and explored future opportunities for regional development. Contributions from experts like Ioannis Tolias, Olympia Zonou, and Nikos Adritsos added valuable insights into smart energy solutions.
  1. Environmental and Water Management Considerations
  • This document addressed the crucial role of sustainable practices in managing Thessaly’s water resources and environmental challenges.
  1. The Exploitation of Biomass for Energy Purposes
  • Focusing on biomass as a renewable energy source, this report examined its potential to drive sustainable energy production in the region.
