R1 Programmable Robot Set for S.T.E.M. Preschool Education

The R1 preschool programmable robot is designed for children aged 4 and above, aiming to develop practical skills in logical analysis, creativity, and problem-solving through hands-on experience with basic engineering, electronics, control logic, and computer science. When paired with the R1.bit app, suitable for tablets and mobile devices, students can easily guide the robot in various activities.

The robot features ready-made tests that reward users with sound or light indicators, enhancing kindergarten children’s understanding of different concepts and quantities. Additionally, it offers interactive and educational activities that help children explore the robot’s full range of capabilities, laying the foundation for learning programming and robotics.

A unique feature of the robot is a special slot on its back for a water marker, enabling it to draw alphanumeric characters or simple geometric shapes on a designated activity surface.

Recognized as suitable educational material for preschool education in STEM-Robotics skills workshops by the Hellenic Ministry of Education, the robot is an excellent tool for early learning. Through the Microsoft MakeCode for micro:bit online platform, available in Greek, users can also create their own engaging programming projects for the robot.

  • Song
  • Pushing objects
  • Painting
  • Play music
  • Interactive tests/quizzes

The robot is a valuable assistant for both the teacher in the application of teaching and the student at the cognitive level, making teaching easier, faster, and fun. Using the robot, students are able to guide it to the correct location, thus answering true/false or multiple-choice questions by choosing a location of the robot in space. In addition, the robot can reward them when they answer correctly, either with a sound or a light indicator.

The R1 robot is a complete basic programming and wireless control system. Kids can program the robot’s sensors and individual coding settings to create various activities such as:

  • Programming visual and audio indications, such as flashing LEDs or playing sounds and music.
  • Programming 2-wheel motion of the robot in X, Y coordinates in space.
  • Programming 2-wheel motion of the robot on a motion surface at specified positions.

Inputting commands to the robot is achieved both by remote control with wireless communication via Bluetooth with a tablet or smartphone, or via a USB cable. The device is based on micro:bit microcontroller architecture and has Bluetooth and USB built-in interface for programming from an Android tablet. Commands are executed wirelessly.

The BBC micro:bit is a mini computer created for educational purposes. It uses open-source libraries and simple yet powerful programming environments to make programming accessible to the general (student) public. It is equipped with a set of 6 integrated sensors (microphone, accelerometer, electronic compass, contact switch, thermometer), buzzer/speaker, LED display with 25 (5 x 5) LEDs, microUSB connector for serial connection with an Android tablet or Windows PC, power supply port, IC Bluetooth with antenna, reset switch, and interface connectors.

It comes with a USB cable and battery case with batteries. The Micro:bit microcontroller of the robot, through the offered program, can store in its memory more than 35 programming commands which are activated by wireless control.
