Volos, 22.12.2014
On December 16, 2014, Polytech had the pleasure of facilitating an enriching educational experience for 3rd Grade students from the 2nd High School of Volos. In collaboration with the University of Thessaly’s Department of Special Education, we provided an integrated mobile laboratory PCB 301 along with members of our scientific team to engage the students in hands-on scientific exploration.
The educational visit was organized by Physics Professor Mrs. Niki Hatzikyriakou and aimed to familiarize students with laboratory environments through a series of experiments, simulations, and multimedia activities. The use of the PCB 301 mobile lab allowed students to conduct real-world scientific experiments in a controlled, educational setting.
Highlights from the Visit
The students were warmly welcomed at the Physical Sciences Laboratory of the Pedagogical Department of Special Education by Professor Dionysios Vavougios, along with researchers Aristides Alexias, Christos Argyropoulos, and Socrates Poulios. These researchers brought components of Polytech’s mobile Physics – Chemistry – Biology Laboratory PCB 301 from Larissa, specifically for this educational event.
Supporting the event was Scientific Counselor Panayiotis Sarantopoulos, who is a steadfast supporter of the 2nd High School of Volos, and School Director Eftychia Vardouvaki, who actively encourages such enriching activities.
During the visit, postgraduate researcher Mr. Charis Tsichouridis provided students with worksheets to complement their hands-on activities. The students constructed electric circuits in both series and parallel configurations, initially in a real environment and subsequently in a virtual environment. This approach allowed them to apply the investigative method and complete the provided worksheets, enhancing their understanding through practical application.

“The 3rd Grade of the 2nd High School of Volos visited the University of Thessaly last Tuesday and conducted Physics experiments.
The students were welcomed at the Physical Sciences Laboratory of the Pedagogical Department of Special Education by Professor Dionysios Vavougios, as well as three collaborating researchers Aristides Alexias, Christos Argyropoulos and Socrates Poulios, who brought for experimentation some parts of Polytech’s mobile Physics – Chemistry – Biology Laboratory PCB 301, based in Larissa, for whom the school is very thankful for their help towards students.
Our scientific visit to the University was attended by the Scientific Counselor, Panayiotis Sarantopoulos, who supports all relevant events and is always by the side of the 2nd High School of Volos and the School Director, Eftychia Vardouvaki, who encourages such activities.
During the experiments, children were provided with worksheets by the postgraduate researcher, Mr. Charis Tsichouridis.
Students constructed electric circuits in series and parallel connections, alone, in a real environment first and then in a virtual environment, and was excited about applying the investigative method and completing the worksheets that they were given. The students left the university full of excitement, experience and eager for the next experiments…
