The PT 4043 Fiber Optics Power Meter is part of the PT 4294 FCS Fiber Optics Dual Trainer module that is embeded within the LHP 4000 Advanced Telecommunications Laboratory.
The PT 4043 Fiber Optics Power Meter module is designed to convert the optical power received at the input port labeled as PIN OI, which is connected via an optical fiber with an SMA termination. It displays the optical power, Po, in decibels relative to 1 milliwatt (dBm). This module operates using a 9V DC adjustable power supply and requires cables equipped with SMA connectors. Measurements taken in millivolts (mV) are divided by 10 to yield the optical power in dBm. For example, an LED with a wavelength of 650nm and SMA termination will typically show a reading of -16.0 dBm when operating at 10mA current.
The Power Meter unit encloses a DIP device mounted on a PCB that receives optical power through a graded-index multimode plastic fiber at 660 nm, converting it into an electrical voltage equivalent to the measured optical power in dBm. The OI unit utilizes SMD technology to achieve a high level of reliability. The device requires only a minimal number of external components to perform its intended functionality. The use of industry-standard SMA connectors ensures durability and consistent, repeatable performance.
