Open Electrical Motors

The O.E.M. Electrical Motors Lab is a modular training system designed for educational purposes, focusing on the assembly and operation of both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) electrical motors. The lab introduces students to the core principles of electrical rotary machines, including their assembly, component identification, and operation. It supports practical and theoretical training in:

  • Motor control and operational configurations (e.g., squirrel cage, slip ring, Dahlander motors)
  • Electrical rotary machines and magnetic field properties
  • DC motors and generators (shunt, series, compound excited)
  • 3-phase and single-phase AC motors
  • Induction motors, transformers, alternators, and universal motors

Training Procedure

Students follow a step-by-step assembly process to grasp the principles behind each component before testing the motor’s operational characteristics. Safety is a priority, ensuring that all experiments are conducted in a controlled and hazard-free environment.

Didactic Process

The lab provides both theoretical and hands-on learning, including:

  • Presentation of theory via teacher-led slides
  • Practical examples and experiments for a better understanding of electrical motors
  • Technical manuals with exercises and theoretical background
  • Optional quizzes, tests, and fault-testing exercises

CIM-401 – Tabletop Electrical Machine Trainer

A compact system for testing AC and DC motors. It allows users to switch between motor types, including DC permanent magnet motors, DC shunt motors, AC capacitor-start motors, and AC squirrel cage motors. The motors are mounted on standard aluminum profiles and equipped with universal shaft couplings for easy experimentation.

CIM-301 – AC & DC Motor Technology Trainer

Supports a wide range of electric motor controls and configurations, allowing for both AC and DC motor experimentation. The modular design facilitates easy setup and reconfiguration of experiments. The frame is made of aluminum with removable upper components for flexibility.

CIM-511A – DC Motor Control Trainer

Provides training on modern DC motor control techniques. This modular system allows for quick assembly of various experiment configurations with removable components for ease of use.

CIM-511D – AC Motor Control Trainer

Similar to the DC Motor Trainer but focused on AC motor control. It provides hands-on experience with AC motor configurations in a modular, reconfigurable system.

This lab is ideal for comprehensive electrical motor training, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in motor operation and control.
